Unbilled Add-Ons: Charging for Every Extra Your Pressure Washing Business Does

Pressure washing is full of small extras. While the rig is set up and the hoses are run, it takes very little to also hit the back patio, the front walk, the gutters or a rust stain on the driveway. Customers know this, and they ask. Washers want to be helpful, and they say yes. Then the invoice goes out for the original job, and the extra was free.

The Leak Behind the Leak

Profit Leaks in a Pressure Washing Business: Where the Money Slips Away listed unbilled add-ons as the first leak. It comes first because it is the easiest to miss and one of the easiest to fix. Nobody decided to give the work away. It just never made it from the driveway to the invoice.

One unbilled patio does not hurt much. The same thing happening a few times a week across two rigs for a whole season is real money: work you paid wages, fuel and chemicals for, and never got paid for.

Price Your Add-Ons in Advance

Washers give extras away partly because nobody knows what to charge. If the price is not written down, it feels awkward to make one up on the spot, so it is easier to just do it.

Put every common add-on in your service list with a price:

In PressureWashingBossPro, the service list is where estimates and invoices pull their line items from, so an add-on priced once is priced the same every time. Prices are yours to set.

Offer Them on the Estimate

The cleanest add-on is one the customer agreed to before you showed up. When you quote a house wash, include the driveway and walks as an option, or bundle them. Estimate templates and packages make it easy to offer the same combinations on every quote. If the customer approves the house wash plus driveway, both are on the job, and both carry onto the invoice.

Measuring flatwork from the satellite view on the property map means you can price the driveway and patio accurately at the same time you quote the house.

A Simple Rule for On-Site Requests

Some requests will always come up on site. Give washers one clear rule they can follow without thinking:

This keeps washers out of price negotiations in the driveway, which they usually do not want anyway, and gives the office everything it needs.

Check Before the Invoice Goes Out

The office should read job notes on completed jobs as part of the daily routine. Any note that mentions extra work gets a line item added from the service list. Invoices support line items and sales tax, so the customer sees exactly what they are paying for.

If you use auto-charge on completion for residential customers, decide how extras fit in. Some owners have washers hold Complete until the office has added the line, or simply send a second invoice for the extra. Either works, as long as it is consistent.

Commercial accounts need the same care. A store manager who asks the crew to also hit the side entrance or a gum-stained walkway is asking for extra work. Note it, confirm it with whoever approves the bill, and add it to that location's line on the monthly statement. Commercial customers expect to pay for extra work. They just want it written down clearly.

Free on Purpose Is Fine

Sometimes giving a small extra away is smart: a thank-you to a long-time customer, a goodwill gesture after a delay, a referral reward. That is fine when it is a decision. Put it on the invoice anyway, with the price and then a discount, so the customer knows they got something and you know what it cost. Free by accident is the leak. Free on purpose is marketing.

Watch It Weekly

During your weekly check, scan a few completed jobs and compare notes, photos and invoices. If extras keep slipping through, tighten the rule.
